CDRD AND KDU SIGN MOU TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH IN DEFENCE TECHNOLOGY

The Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) to enhance collaboration in research, development, and innovation in defence-related technologies. The signing ceremony, held on 9th September 2025 at KDU, was graced by Commodore (L) J.U. Gunaseela USP psc ndc, Director General of CDRD, and Rear Admiral H.G.U. Dammika Kumara, Vice Chancellor of KDU.
This partnership aims to promote mutual cooperation in emerging technologies aligned with national priorities in defence and technological advancement. Under the MoU, both institutions will jointly engage in research and development projects, knowledge exchange programmes, training initiatives, technical consultancy, and technology development.
Through this collaboration, students and researchers from KDU will have the opportunity to work closely with CDRD on real-world defence projects, gaining valuable industry exposure while contributing to the national interest. By bridging academia and the defence sector, the partnership seeks to encourage innovation and technological self-reliance in Sri Lanka, fostering growth in the nation’s defence research capabilities.
This MoU marks a significant step forward in advancing national security objectives and promoting technological innovation in Sri Lanka’s defence sector, as CDRD continues to expand its network of academic and industry partners to develop cutting-edge solutions for the country’s security needs.
