CDRD Celebrates Sinhala & Tamil New Year with a Traditional Aurudu Kevili Table

In the spirit of unity, tradition, and cultural pride, the Centre for Defence Research and Development celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a vibrant and heartfelt Aurudu Kevili Table on 16 April 2025. The colourful event, held at CDRD premises, brought together all officers and other ranks who serve under the esteemed institution, in a spirit of camaraderie and festive joy.
Gracing the occasion as the chief guest was the Director General of CDRD, Commodore Janaka Gunaseela whose warm presence and enthusiastic participation elevated the event, setting a tone of tradition and togetherness. The highlight of the celebration was the meticulously arranged Kevili Table, a stunning spread of traditional Sri Lankan sweetmeats and delicacies from kavum and kokis to aluwa, mung kevum, and more each item lovingly prepared and symbolizing prosperity, generosity, and the joy of Avurudu.
What made this celebration truly special was the collective spirit of everyone at CDRD. Officers and other ranks alike gathered in unity, not just to share the kevili, but to honour the cultural significance of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The event echoed with laughter, heartfelt greetings, and the aroma of festive treats, marking a fresh beginning with sweet traditions and shared memories. The Director General, in his remarks, extended his warmest Avurudu wishes to the CDRD family, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural values while embracing innovation a vision deeply embedded in CDRD’s mission.
