CDRD SUCCESSFULLY HOSTS 10-DAY BASIC GIS COURSE FOR TRI-FORCES OFFICERS

th 2024, the Information Technology and
Geographical Information Systems (IT & GIS) Wing of the Centre for Defence Research
and Development (CDRD) conducted a comprehensive 10-day basic GIS course for
officers from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Air Force. The training took place in the
CDRD, accommodating 17 dedicated military personnel.
The course was designed to provide participants with a solid understanding of both the
theoretical and practical aspects of Geographic Information Systems. Officers engaged
in hands-on activities that highlighted the applications of GIS technology relevant to
their military duties. Throughout the training, attendees demonstrated a keen interest
and enthusiasm, fostering an engaging learning environment.
Upon completion of the course, participants expressed confidence that the knowledge
gained would significantly enhance their effectiveness in their respective roles within
the military.
In addition to the IT & GIS Wing's initiatives, CDRD emphasizes its commitment to
professional development by offering a variety of training programs across its other
wings, aimed at equipping military personnel with essential skills while fulfilling its core
mission of research and development.
