Defence Secretary Pay a Visit to the Centre for Defence Research and Development

The Centre for Defence Research and Development has the honour of hosting Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) WWV, RWP and two Bars, RSP and Bar, USP, MMSc (Strat Stu-China), MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, fndu (China), psc during his inspection visit on Wednesday (Oct 30). The Director General of the CDRD, Major General Imal Assalaratchi, USP, psc, ptsc, extended a warm welcome to the Secretary on behalf of the Centre.
The Defence Secretary received an in-depth briefing on the CDRD’s operations, including insights into ongoing research projects, completed projects and strategic plans for future advancements. The Secretary engaged in a discussion with the officers of CDRD, offering valuable perspectives on defence and innovation. In recognition of his visit, the Director General presented a memento to the Defence Secretary to commemorate this special occasion. Before departing, the Defence Secretary left a remark in the CDRD Visitors' Book, highlighting his appreciation for the Centre’s commitment on fostering technological advancements in defence.
The CDRD, a leading institution under the Ministry of Defence, is dedicated on establishing a world-class science and technology base to support the nation’s defence through innovative, and cost-effective solutions. This visit underscored the Defence Ministry's support and commitment to strengthening Sri Lanka’s defence capabilities through advanced research and development. During the visit, Senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, including Air Vice Marshal Padman de Costa, the Military Liaison Officer, were also present for the visit.
