2025-03-02

check-all The Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD) presented it's one of an innovation at the GoviLab AgriTech Accelerator Regional Demo Day on March 2nd, 2025, at the Farm Mechanization Training Center (FMTC) in Puliyankulama, Anuradhapura, Local farmers were presented advancements in agricultural mechanization to update farming practices.

check-all Under the guidance of the Green Agriculture and Agriculture Modernization Operations Centre, a specialized machine was introduced that uses high-speed compressed air to plant rice using the "parachute method." This technique propels rice plants into the field using compressed air, differing from traditional hand-throwing methods and offering multiple benefits. The CDRD team visited FMTC to introduce the machine and conduct demonstrations, aiming provide local farmers with the knowledge and skills to build and implement this to technology independently. The demonstration offered practical insights into the construction and operation of the machine, helping farmers to reduce fatigue and increase efficiency.

check-all The Regional Demo Day highlighted the government's support for sustainable agricultural practices by integrating modern technology with traditional techniques to improve productivity and manage costs. Farmers showed interest in adapting the technology to meet their specific needs, contributing to a more resilient and innovative agricultural sector. The GoviLab AgriTech Accelerator Regional Demo Day demonstrated the impact of innovation and collaboration, aligning with the government's efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure sustainability.
