CDRD Conducts Workshop on Drone Technology and LiDAR Mapping at University of Colombo

The IT and GIS Wing of the CDRD successfully conducted a comprehensive workshop on Drone Technology and LiDAR Mapping for the students of the Department of Environmental Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Colombo.
Held on 6th February 2025, the workshop featured both theoretical and practical sessions, providing participants with an in-depth understanding of drone-based LiDAR technology and its applications in environmental mapping and geospatial analysis.
During the theoretical session, experts from CDRD covered fundamental principles of LiDAR mapping, UAV technology, data acquisition techniques, and real-world applications. The practical session included live demonstrations of drone operations, LiDAR scanning techniques, and data processing using state-of-the-art UAV platforms such as the DJI M300 RTK and Phantom 4 Pro.
This hands-on experience allowed students to engage directly with advanced geospatial technologies, enhancing their technical skills and knowledge in terrain modelling, environmental monitoring, and remote sensing applications.
CDRD continues to collaborate with academic institutions to promote technological advancements and knowledge-sharing, fostering the next generation of professionals in geospatial sciences and environmental technology.
