CDRD Team Presents Traffic Minimization Mobile Solution to Anuradhapura

check-all A CDRD team, led by Chief Coordinator - IT & GIS Wing Commander Tharanga Mahawatta and Research Officer (IT) Major Janak Abesiriwardhane, met with Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, the Chief Monk of Anuradhapura Atamasthanaya, and key local police officials to present a web application developed to minimize traffic congestion in the scared area, especially during high-traffic seasons.

Hemarathana Thero stressed the importance of using technology to manage road traffic effectively, particularly during major religious events when millions of devotees visit Anuradhapura. The police officials, including the Officer In Charge (OIC) of Udamaluwa Police Station, Chief Inspector Sarath, and the Traffic OIC of Anuradhapura Police Station, offered valuable feedback on the system.


check-all They suggested incorporating real-time traffic updates, route optimization for smoother traffic flow, and alerting features for road closures or disruptions, which would be helpful for both locals and visitors navigating the town during busy times. The CDRD team welcomed these suggestions and agreed to enhance the system with the additional features. This initiative is a significant step towards solving Anuradhapura’s traffic problems, especially during peak festival seasons, and aims to improve road management, reduce fuel waste, and save time for both residents and the millions of visitors who flock to the city each year. CDRD is intending to improve this mobile solution with the feedbacks and hoping to implement full fledge traffic Minimizing Mobile Solution soon.
