Drone Practical Session for Environmental Technology Undergraduates of the University of Colombo

check-all The IT & GIS Wing of the Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD) successfully conducted a hands-on drone practical session on the 15th of August 2024 for fourth-year undergraduate students pursuing a course in Advanced GIS. This session was organized to meet the practical requirements of the Environmental Technology curriculum, with a specific focus on applying drone technology in mapping and environmental analysis.


check-all The session provided students with an in-depth demonstration and training on drone operations, including the fundamentals of drone handling, flight planning, and capturing high-resolution imagery. Additionally, the training included practical insights into utilizing drone-generated data for environmental mapping, monitoring, and analysis—crucial skills for modern environmental technologists.


check-all Students appreciated the practical exposure, gaining confidence in integrating drone technology with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for more accurate and efficient environmental assessments. The session was organized on the request of Dean, Faculty of Technology, University of Colombo, to educate undergraduate students on latest technological skills and knowledge required in the rapidly evolving field of environmental technology.
