A CDRD PUBLICATION RANKED AS ONE OF THE MOST DOWNLOADED PAPERS BY FAMED WILEY PUBLISHERS
2024-03-29
Making another significant stride in the field of research, a CDRDs research paper published in 2022 received the "Top Downloaded Article" title from the famed Wiley publishers. This is considered a significant milestone in the CDRD's history, as it was the first international recognition of its high-quality research and a testimony to the broader international acceptance of its work.
The certification was received for the paper titled "Ricochet of 9mm pistol bullets on glazed ceramic tiles: An empirical study in support of shooting incident reconstruction"; which was published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences based on research work carried out at CDRD in the year 2022 under RC 16 (2022) - Analysis of the ricochet behaviour of pistol bullets (9mm) project by Lt Col (Dr) Bandula Nishshanka and Major Randika Ariyarathna.
The paper presents the ricochet behaviour and surface evidence when 9 mm bullets ricochet off the standard wall and floor tiles. It also first introduces a new phenomenon and terminology, the "Caterpillar Effect" and "Caterpillar Impact Mark" during a ricochet event and the first observation of the "nucleus" ricochet mark for pistol calibre bullet ricochets, both of which are important novel findings. Wiley is the fourth largest academic publisher in the world and third among the best academic journal publishers. Dr Chris Shephered of the University of Kent, United Kingdom, and Dr Samindi Jayawickrama of NSBM Green University, Sri Lanka, also contributed to the paper as co-authors.
