2024-01-31

check-all Weapon training simulators have become a modern trend in the military to train their personnel to improve their firing skills. However, they have become non-affordable for most developing countries due to their high costs. Providing this unique experience to cadets at the Geneneral Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), CDRD handed over another successfully completed research-based outcome; Basic Weapon Training Simulator, to KDU.

check-all The simulator handed over to KDU consisted of 6 firing lanes, each with a laser-mounted, modified T-56 assault rifle and an LED target panel to capture laser impacts. It also has an automated and movable electronic target system with a maximum firing distance of 50 m, facilitating the trainees to fire laser shots at prone, kneeling, and standing positions and monitor the shot's impact on the nearby LCD screens. This training simulator is expected to provide the cadets with an exceptional opportunity to conduct weapon training using modern technology and to uplift their training standards and skills.

check-all The Vice Chancellor KDU Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV USP psc MMaritimePol BSc (DS), Director General CDRD Brigadier BI Assalaratchi USP psc ptsc MSc, Deputy Vice-Chancellor KDU (Defence and Administration), Director KDU CARE and few senior officers from KDU and CDRD were present for this occasion.
