The Conference Hall of the Centre for Research and Development was ceremoniously declared open by the Director General Dr. Brig. STS De Silva on 18 December 2018 fulfilling a long standing requirement. Officers of the R&D divisions of the Sri Lanka Air Force and personnel of the CRD were also in attendance.
The CRD, as an organization carrying out numerous projects related to defence and social empowerment, closely interacts and coordinates with similar organizations; especially those in the government and Tri Forces. This is due to the necessity to share knowledge and techniques, and improve the utility of such projects by doing so.
However, not only was there no dedicated facility to conduct such knowledge sharing activities till date, those that were available were located seperate to any of the organizations carrying out the R&D projects, The CRD already played a key role to coordinate R&D efforts, and therefore was the ideal location to construct a conference hall in order to cover the above requirements.
Following the opening ceremony, briefings were held on the status of ongoing R&D projects as well as proposals for future activities. Subsequently guests were hosted to traditional tea-party.
